LITTLETON — The Select Board has hit the pause button on a large-scale battery energy storage system that would be set up along St. Johnsbury Road and reduce electricity rates for Littleton Water and Light customers. Among the concerns voiced during the board’s meeting last week is an insufficient safety plan in the event of a fire. Some residents voiced concerns about the chance of fire and cited fires at similar battery energy storage systems elsewhere. The Convergent storage setup would have a fire-suppression system and can be located where it could safely burn itself out, said LWL Commissioner Peter Cooper.
