SOMERSWORTH, N.H. — Investigators have identified the person shot and killed in Somersworth on Monday night. Jeffrey Prouty, 36, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, officials said. The manner of his death was homicide. Prouty was found suffering from the gunshot wound outside the apartment building at 97 High St., officials said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators said a second man, a 31-year-old, was found suffering from non-gunshot wounds inside a hallway in the apartment building. He was treated at a hospital and has since been released. Officials with the New Hampshire attorney general’s office said both men were involved in a verbal argument just before the shooting. Investigators are looking into whether the person who shot Prouty acted in self-defense.
