FEMA has awarded over $2.5 million in individual assistance to Northeast Kingdom residents and homeowners for the two July flooding events so far. A total of 1,570 people have registered with FEMA for the two disasters. The first was hit a wide portion of the the state July 9-11, which resulted in 7 counties receiving a disaster declaration for individual assistance. A new center will be opened at the Newport City Municipal Building at 222 Main Street on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The center will keep the same hours as the other three centers that continue to operate in Vermont, including the one at the Lyndon Public Safety Building. The centers are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Vermonters have until Nov. 25 to apply for assistance from either flooding event.
