LANCASTER — After years of providing discounted trash hauling services to the town, Beattie Enterprises has decided to withdraw from the contract. Selectman Shane Beattie, the company owner, cited manpower issues as the reason for the decision. “We were glad to do it for our hometown,” Beattie said. “I wish I could have continued, but due to the workforce shortage, we just couldn’t do it.” During a Select Board meeting, a new hauling contract with Casella Waste Systems was approved at a rate of $600 per load. This is nearly double the $295 per load that Beattie Enterprises charged. As a result, the town’s annual waste hauling costs are expected to increase by approximately $40,000 to $45,000.
