FRANCONIA, N.H. – Three Massachusetts men were rescued from Franconia Ridge on Sunday. New Hampshire Fish and Game reported that Jack Tragni, 24, of Boston; Justin Yang, 24, of Cambridge; and Vaishnav Raja, 25, of Boston, were attempting a winter hike of the Falling Waters/Bridle Path Loop when they encountered dangerous conditions. The three men sent an SOS at 5:30 p.m. through a Garmin device. As rescuers mobilized, tracking of the Garmin device indicated the group was moving slowly toward the summit of Mount Lafayette. Rescue teams, composed of Conservation Officers and volunteers from the Pemi Valley Search and Rescue Team, began their ascent at 7:30 p.m. After several hours without communication, the rescuers reached the hikers just below Greenleaf Hut at 9:10 p.m. They provided additional light sources, as some of the group’s equipment had failed. The hikers then started their descent with rescuers, arriving safely at the trailhead around 10:20 p.m.
