ST. JOHNSBURY — The Shelter at Moose River will reach its first anniversary next month as a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week safe, warm place for those who are homeless. Located at 72 Moose River Dr., the 20-bed shelter opened in January 2024. It is a collaboration between Northeast Kingdom Community Action, which operates the shelter and Rural Edge, which owns the building and converted the structure into shelter space from what had been a place where church worship was held. To date, the Shelter at Moose River has served 67 individuals and has provided over 500 services which include case management, financial coaching, and other supportive services such as gaining access to Vermont benefits like SNAP, SSI/ SSDI and Medicaid.
